Teachers across the country received respect and gratitude on the Chinese Teachers’ Day which is observed annually on Sept 10. There is no exception in SIP.

Many teachers in SIP deserve the highest respect for not only their role in helping their students pursue academic and future successes, but also their contributions to education development in a broader context. Below are several examples.

Wang Xiaofeng, who has more than 30 years of experience in teaching mathematics and studies on teaching approaches at SIP Teacher Development Center, developed the method of “l(fā)earning from doing” for math learning in junior middle schools. This method integrates math with other subjects and allows students to learn knowledge by participating in projects and workshops.

Liu Yan, a politics teacher and secretary of the CPC Committee of Suzhou High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University, wins the favor of her students with a teaching style that “combines sense and sensibility” and “highlights scenarios and deep experience”.

Liu has served as a volunteer teacher in middle schools in less-developed areas in Southwest China’s Guizhou province and East China’s Jiangxi province several times to help promote local education development.

Miao Jianping, a teacher at SIP Kuatang Experimental Primary School, has made a series of innovations in teaching. He proposed and developed the “Try and Feedback” method, guiding students to bravely try to solve difficulties in learning and reflect on their successes and failures. He also devotes himself to promoting open classes and classroom discussions.

Miao is also engaged in bringing advanced teaching modes to less-developed areas. He served as the principal of a primary school in Horgos, a city in Ili Kazak autonomous prefecture in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, from 2017 to 2019, and since then has been trying his best to enhance interactions between students and teachers in Suzhou and Ili.
